The project was aimed at initiating the COA aircraft operation within the Russian airspace along the routes across the North Pole from/to the Western hemisphere to/from the Eastern hemisphere in accordance with the ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards) program, this project was one of the most significant and extensive as implemented by Continental Airlines to ensure the considerable fuel, time and funds saving during the operation.
The contract signed in December of 2000 was intended to render consulting services on the COA flight operation along the cross-polar routes within the Russian airspace.
Progresstech experts together with the SCAAR officials have advised the air carrier representatives on planning and operating the flights on the cross-polar routes. The meetings were held in Houston, TX and Moscow, Russia as well as during the first cross-polar commercial flight of COA B-777 from Newark to Hong Kong on March 1, 2001.
Progresstech experts have been entitled as official designees of Continental Airlines in Russia and CIS.
