V. A. Kulchitsky, President, Progresstech Group of Companies
How to treat today’s crisis? It is hard to give an exact answer. I only can acknowledge that crisis in Russian is gathering pace and getting across the board. There is no hope that Progresstech and its people would happen to be in some isolated, securely protected area. Whereas, it is impossible to say who is guilty as there is too many versions. We have one which is the most widely-spread: crisis was imported into Russia from the USA as Bush’s chicken legs and caused by American irresponsible financial politics.
In anticipation of possible risks during the transient period from socialistic to free market economy, our company tried to diversify maximally its activity. Initially we realized that if we rely on only one of market components, it would be just impossible and destructive for us. Therefore we began to develop two independent projects. The first was related to the domestic market and we participated in various infrastructure projects, and the second one was connected with involvement of intellectual services and execution of engineering tasks for foreign companies. And we were right.
Now I’m working on expanding airport business westward. There has been recently approved a new ground infrastructure development plan in the USA and we obviously will be short of engineering resources. The negotiations with the American part have already started and I hope they will be successful. Moreover, they know: our designing approaches are the latest and conform to all western standards. Possibly, we will have a real chance very soon to perform some work in the Middle East.
